Time: 9am to 12pm.
Meeting location: Far eastern end of Samuel Marsden Road, Orchard Hills.
This site is located in Orchard Hills. The Bushcare site backs onto the South Creek corridor and is home to the critically endangered ecological community, Cumberland Plain Woodland and the endangered ecological community River-flat Eucalypt Forest.
Among the remnant bushland stand old, towering eucalypts, some with hollows that serve as nesting and sheltering sites for native birds and possums, and other important wildlife. These natural tree hollows take decades to form, and their presence makes this site especially valuable for conservation. However, invasive weeds pose a serious threat by choking young saplings and competing with native plants for space, water, and sunlight. Through hands-on restoration work, like weed removal, volunteers play a direct role in protecting these precious trees and the future of the habitat they support.
Tasks include woody weeds such as wild tobacco, small and large-leaved privet, vines such as passionfruit, moth vine and bridal creeper.
It is home to the black bittern, yellow-bellied glider and the grey-headed flying-fox.
