Gipps Street Recreation Precinct

Council has transformed its 32-hectare former waste facility site at Claremont Meadows into a landmark sport and recreation destination.

Gipps Street Recreation Precinct features:

  • four full size rectangular fields and one junior size field suitable for a variety of rectangular field sports.
  • two full size cricket / AFL ovals with synthetic wickets.
  • two netball courts.
  • four lane district-level cricket practice facilities.
  • amenities building equipped with a canteen, multi-purpose area, four large or eight small change rooms, change room for officials, storage space and accessible toilet facilities.
  • children’s playspaces including water play, and nature play areas.
  • youth zone with floodlit skate park, pump track and multi-sport courts. 
  • outdoor fitness equipment for all ages.
  • off-leash floodlit dog park, with separate areas for small and large dogs (to open in October 2024).
  • pedestrian connections.
  • passive recreation, picnic and viewing areas, including barbeques, shelters and public art. 
  • tree planting and landscaping. 
  • toilet facilities throughout the precinct.
  • more than 500 car parking spaces, including accessible spaces and coach drop off/parking. 

The precinct is located at 34 Gipps Street, Claremont Meadows, NSW 2747. It is open from 6am until 10.30pm daily.

The $44.5 million Gipps Street Recreation Precinct project was proudly funded by Council with the support of the NSW Government, which contributed a combined $13.5 million through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program ($7 million), Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund ($5 million), Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund ($1 million), and the Places to Play Program ($500,000)

The Gipps Street Recreation Precinct is located at 34 Gipps Street, Claremont Meadows, NSW 2747.

The gates will be open daily from 6am until 10.30pm. The floodlights over the dog park, youth zone, and multi-sport courts will be on until 9pm daily. Formal sports are required to be finished by 10pm.

There are two pedestrian entrances – one at either end of Gipps Street. Today, we only have the pedestrian entrance on the corner of Gipps Street and Fowler Street open.

The pedestrian entrance on the corner of Gipps Street and the northern end of Sunflower Drive will open in late 2024.

Vehicles can access the precinct via the intersection of Gipps Street and the northern end of Sunflower Drive.

Any weather-related closures are at the discretion of the hirer.

Hirers are responsible for conducting a risk assessment to determine the suitability of sports grounds for training, competition, player safety and potential ground damage.

Hirers should consider the weather forecast, any relevant State Sporting Organisation (SSO) weather policies and the field condition when inspected.

If the hirer chooses not to proceed with a booking, they must communicate this to Council and all participants including spectators.

You cannot pre-book the picnic tables or BBQs. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yes, you can bring your dog to the precinct. They must remain on a leash unless you are in the off-leash dog park, which will open in October 2024.

You can ride your bike in the pump track area.

Yes. The main amenities building includes ambulant toilets, MLAK-fitted accessible toilet with shower, and a MLAK-fitted ‘Changing Place’ facility with a height-adjustable adult-sized change table, ceiling track hoist system, centrally-located peninsula toilet, privacy screen, and automatic door.

Yes. The main amenities building includes a parent’s room with baby change table facilities.

The water play area will operate at the following times:

  • September to April: from 9am until 8pm
  • May to August: from 10am until 4pm

No, it cannot be hired for community events. It is for use by the sports groups and associations with formal agreements in place. Council has facilities available for hire which you can find out more about on our website

 

DRAFT PLAN OF MANAGEMENT FOR GIPPS STREET RECREATION PRECINCT

Council has prepared the Draft Plan of Management (POM) for the Gipps Street Recreation Precinct. This is the next step in the development of the project, to provide direction and inform decisions as to the use and management of Council-owned community land in the Gipps Street Recreation Precinct. The Draft POM is a requirement of the Local Government Act.

The Draft POM was put on public exhibition from Tuesday 25 June until Monday 22 July 2024. Council accepted submissions for the Draft POM until 11.59pm on Monday 5 August 2024.
