The Nepean River is our region’s greatest natural asset and a much-loved recreational destination for residents and visitors. Several projects are underway to improve amenity, provide open space, and create opportunities to meet, relax, explore, play and be active.

Nepean Avenue

A new pedestrian pathway on Nepean Avenue has made the popular Great River Walk loop around the Nepean River safer, more connected and enjoyable.

Our Master Plan

The "Our River" Master Plan was developed in consultation with the local community to provide Penrith City Council with a strategic framework for the management of the river reach and associated infrastructure. 

Nepean River, Our River

The Nepean River is the main waterway that runs through the Penrith Local Government Area (LGA). We created a video series to highlight its importance and the efforts Penrith City Council and Camden Council take to protect the water quality.

Tench Reserve

A $13 million upgrade of Tench Reserve was completed in 2023 and has transformed the area into a vibrant riverside hub.

Vegetation Management

The Nepean River is our region’s greatest natural asset and Penrith City Council is committed to protecting the river and keeping it healthy so that current and future residents can enjoy and share in its beauty.

Regatta Park

Regatta Park at the Nepean River has been transformed into the new focal point for nature, leisure and recreation. It will further strengthen Penrith’s position as Western Sydney’s most liveable city.

Police Cottage

The historic Police Cottage at Emu Plains has been transformed into a vibrant dining destination, following an adaptive reuse of the site into a cafe and restaurant, to enhance our connection to the Nepean River.

Great River Walk
