Clothing and Textile Recycling Drop-off Event

This event will provide an opportunity to drop off unwanted clothing and textile items* for recycling with Textile Recyclers Australia (TRA) for free, helping to divert valuable resources from landfill.

Items accepted at the event include clothing, shoes, accessories (e.g., hats, belts & bags), and linens (e.g., sheets & towels)*.  

Brand new items (with tags) will be donated to local charities, such as The Haven – Nepean Women’s Shelter and WestCare Community Services. 

Embroidered items such as uniforms can be safely recycled.  

Bring your unwanted items in a bag or box, loaded into the back of your boot, and our friendly team will help you unload them at the event.  

*Please note: Only clean textile items will be accepted.  

Directions on the day  

  • Enter the carpark off The Kingsway. Upon entry, take care when driving, following the signs to the drop-off point. Please remain in your vehicle.

Accepted… 

  • Clothes & accessories, including belts and handbags 
  • Hats: bucket hats, felt hats, baseball-type caps with peaks removed 
  • Shoes in pairs 
  • Sewing scraps, including rolls of fabric 
  • Fabric types: cotton, cotton mixes, polyesters, polyester mixes, nylon, rayon, acetate, acrylics, silks, cashmere, alpaca, wool. 
  • Towels & curtains (please remove hooks & eyelets, no rubber backed curtains)
  • Bedding
    • Pillows: Polyfil, Dacron, bamboo, foam, memory foam, feather & down (no latex)
    • Doonas: Polyfil, Dacron, Feather, Down & Wool
    • Mattress protectors without plastic water proofing
    • Sleeping Bags: With polyester stuffing / wool or a mix

Not accepted…. 

  • Textiles stained with grease, oil, paint, solvents, animal hair (these cannot be recycled)
  • Textiles cannot be sent when they are wet or damp. Mould sets in then the textile cannot be recycled.
  • Intimate apparel, bras, pantyhose, tights & swimwear
  • Mattress protectors, pillows, doonas, blankets.
  • Offcuts: Leather, suede, vinyl & neoprene (these can be taken to Trashy Penrith)
  • Backpacks, suitcases, electrical items
