Summer Lovin’ - Penrith Beach a success

Summer in Penrith had a new destination this season with hundreds of thousands of people flocking to Penrith Beach.

The same length as Bondi Beach, the natural beach and waterway at Penrith Lakes, just north of Penrith City Centre, opened to the public in December 2023.
With almost 200,000 people visiting the beach by early March, the NSW Government announced it would extend operating hours beyond the original March closure date. Penrith Beach will continue to open on weekends and public holidays until 25 April 2024.

With the extension of the season demonstrating the success of Penrith Beach , Council is seeking clarification from the NSW Government about long term activation plans for the site.
Council has long called for community access to Penrith Lakes; advocating for the NSW Government to undertake a comprehensive vision and master planning process to provide greater access to the community.

Penrith Lakes are an underutilised natural asset that should be freely and easily accessible for recreational and cultural activities that support the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors of Penrith, the Western Parkland City and Greater Sydney.

Penrith Lakes presents enormous tourism, recreation, economic and social opportunities to the City and the western Sydney region. Already home to world class Olympic facilities in Sydney International Regatta Centre and Penrith Whitewater Stadium, further investment and access to new open spaces will capitalise on these venues and attract other recreational users.
