Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said he was delighted with the news of the grant funding for projects in the LGA.

“Each one of the projects will contribute to the improved liveability of our City, including the health, wellbeing and greater social connection of our community,” Cr Fowler said.

“It’s important that we provide access to good community facilities and if the last few weeks have shown us anything, it’s that we need these outdoor facilities for our well-being.”

Funding from the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership will go towards four projects:

• Brian King Park, Oxley Park – New outdoor fitness equipment and play improvements.

• Robin Wiles Park, North St Marys – Park security lighting.

• Myrtle Road Playground, Claremont Meadows – Upgrade shade, shelter, seating.

• Chapman Gardens, Kingswood – New outdoor health and fitness equipment.

While funding from the Everyone Can Play grant program will implement additional accessibility improvements and upgrades at:

• Brian King Park, Oxley Park – Additional play equipment, tree planting and shelter.

• Ironbark Reserve, Cranebrook - Additional play equipment, tree planting and shelter

• The Carriageway, Glenmore Park - Additional play equipment and seating.

Four successful applications were made to the Community Building Program by sports clubs and community organisations totalling $191,730. Council supported the St Clair Comets JRL, St Marys Netball Club, Penrith BMX and Nepean Naval Museum through the provision of project scopes and designs, reviewing and compiling grant documentation, and providing letters of support for their application.

“I am pleased that Council continues to invest in play, sport, recreation and community infrastructure with the support of local State Members and grants from the NSW Government.” Cr Fowler said.
