Penrith City Council has completed upgrades to the drainage system and playing surfaces at the Andrews Road Baseball Facility in Penrith.
These improvements will support the facility’s ability to recover after heavy rain, providing local teams with a more reliable playing surface.
In addition to the drainage upgrades, all three field surfaces have been top dressed, ensuring better playability and durability for years to come.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the upgrades were vital to address the challenges that heavy rain poses to the facility.
“After the severe flooding events of 2022 it was clear that drainage system upgrades were required at Andrews Road Baseball Facility,” Cr Carney said.
“By improving the natural swales and retaining wall, we are preparing Andrews Road for the future and helping baseball players to get back on the field sooner.”
This upgrade was funded by the NSW Government through the Essential Community Sports Assets Program (ESCAP) Infrastructure Grants program ($343,842) and delivered by Penrith City Council.
Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, said projects like these show the NSW Government’s commitment to helping communities recover from severe flooding events.
“This grant program is designed to not only to repair the damage caused by natural disasters but to help build flood resilience into sports facilities so we can get participants back on the field sooner.”
Member for Penrith, Karen McKeown OAM MP welcomed the completion of the upgrades that will improve the resilience and usability of the facility.
“It is exciting to see these upgrades completed and the NSW Government funding put to such good use to mitigate flooding. The facility is well used by players and now is prepared for any future heavy rain events.”
