Penrith City Council is pleased to announce a range of additional waste and resource recovery services to support residents during the festive season.
These services aim to make it easier for residents to manage their waste and recycling over the Christmas and New Year period. The additional services include extra bin collections, two weeks of recycling drop-offs and a real Christmas tree drop-off day.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney urged residents to take advantage of the additional services.
“Penrith City Council is committed to providing efficient waste management services and encourages all residents to participate in these additional services to help keep our community clean and green,” Cr Carney said.
To accommodate the increased waste generated during the holidays, extra bin collections will be provided. Residents are reminded to place their bins at the kerbside the night before their normal collection day and leave them out until they are emptied, even on public holidays.
The two weeks of extra bin collections will commence from Wednesday, 25 December 2024, and continue until Tuesday, 7 January 2025, including public holidays, where residents can place all three bins at the kerbside for collection on their scheduled collection day each week.
Residents can also take advantage of the special recycling drop-off days at The Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington. These will be held from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays from Monday, 16 December to Friday, 27 December 2024 (excluding Public Holidays). This is an excellent opportunity to dispose of recyclable materials responsibly.
Council will collect excess household recyclables that normally go in the yellow-lidded bin, including paper and cardboard boxes (with staples and tape removed), glass bottles and jars, milk and juice cartons, plastic bottles and containers, and steel and aluminium cans.
Items such as polystyrene and Electronic Waste will not be accepted. However, these can be dropped off at Penrith’s Community Recycling Centre. For more information, visit penrith.city/CRC
After the festive season, residents can drop off their real Christmas trees for mulching. The real Christmas tree drop-off on Saturday, 11 January 2025 will be held at The Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington from 10am until 2pm.
Artificial trees and decorations will not be accepted on the day. Council recommends residents wishing to dispose of old and unwanted artificial trees book a bulky waste collection or break them down and place them into the red-lidded residual waste bin. For community safety and service efficiency, residents are requested to pack their items for drop-off in the boot of their car and remain in their vehicle. Council’s service team will safely unpack your items.
