Council’s Director City Futures Kylie Powell recently took part in a panel discussion at the 3rd Annual Western Sydney Aerotropolis Summit.
The discussion centred around “Continuing Commitment to the Aerotropolis” to stimulate economic growth, employment opportunities, improve liveability and strengthen tri-government collaboration.
Ms Powell highlighted the benefits of the City Deal in fostering collaboration between the eight Councils and the benefits of the Planning Partnership in providing a consistent approach to planning among Councils adjoining the airport and aerotropolis lands.
She also spoke about the need for a long term commitment to significant infrastructure, as emphasised by the recent Infrastructure Audit, including Penrith’s ongoing calls for a North South Rail connection that runs from Macarthur to Tallawong, building on the Stage 1 commitment aerotropolis to St Marys to be delivered in time for the airport opening in 2026. Ms Powell also highlighted the importance of road connectivity including the Castlereagh Connection which will provide safer, more efficient flood evacuation in the Hawkesbury-Nepean and intersect with existing and planned road and rail routes.
