Penrith City Council has recently solidified its 2025 advocacy priorities, focusing on securing crucial federal and state investment and policy changes to support the region's rapid growth.
These priorities, endorsed at the February Council Meeting, are designed to ensure Penrith remains a prime location for sustainable development and investment.
With Penrith positioned as a key economic and social powerhouse in Western Sydney, the Council's advocacy strategy addresses the critical infrastructure and policy needs that are beyond local government capacity. Key focus areas include:
- Roads and Transport Connections, enhancing connectivity to facilitate business growth and improve resident mobility.
- Housing, supporting diverse housing options to accommodate the region's increasing population.
- Flooding, addressing critical flood mitigation, including the Castlereagh Connection flood evacuation route.
- Liveability, investing in projects that enhance the quality of life for residents.
- Place-Based Initiatives, targeted development in key areas like St Marys and Orchard Hills, leveraging the opportunities presented by the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport line.
Penrith's strategic location, just 15 kilometres from the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (opening 2026), and its projected population exceeding 270,000 by 2041, underscore the urgent need for essential infrastructure to support this growth. Council's advocacy priorities include securing vital projects such as the full-length north-south rail, a Western Sydney Rapid Bus service and community infrastructure to support housing growth.
These advocacy priorities are informed by the needs of the community and are designed to "futureproof" Penrith, ensuring it remains an attractive destination for residents and businesses alike. Penrith City Council is committed to working with federal and state government counterparts, policy makers, and strategic partners to deliver these essential projects.
