Businesses learn to navigate defence

Supplying to the defence industry can be highly lucrative, but also highly complex to navigate. That’s why Penrith City Council brought one of Australia’s biggest defence suppliers to Penrith to meet with local businesses.

group of people seated watching speakerThe Navigating Defence Series event, held in Penrith last month, saw approximately 100 participants in attendance. The event was delivered by BAE Systems Australia in partnership with Ai Group Defence Suppliers network (DSn), Western Parkland City Authority (Bradfield Development Authority), and Penrith City Council.

In his opening address, Cr Todd Carney, Mayor of Penrith, noted how important the defence industry is to the nation, and that the high growth industry presented an opportunity for Western Sydney.

"We know there is a wealth of experience and talent in Western Sydney that Defence can benefit from to enhance its self-reliance and supply chain resilience. And in turn, will help create more local jobs and contribute to our economic growth," Cr Carney said.

In a comprehensive program running several hours, attendees were presented with an overview of BAE Systems global program, insights into export controls, supply quality assurance, and advice on estimating and pricing. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak further with BAE Systems and network with other local current or potential defence industry suppliers.
