Micro-credentials in Key Industry at WSU

After a successful launch in 2022, expressions of interest are now open for the 2023 Essentials of Metal Additive Manufacturing Short Course Training Program, commencing on Tuesday 11 July at Western Sydney University.

This short course is one of the many micro-credentials available as part of the NSW Government and Western Parkland City Authority (WPCA) New Education and Training Model (NETM).

The NETM has been developed in partnership with industry, universities, vocational education and training (VET) providers and government. The NETM delivers small-scale packages of learning, or micro-credentials, that allow people to build knowledge, skills and experience in a particular subject area aligned to employer needs.

Manufacturing is the fifth highest industry by employment in the Penrith region and made the biggest contribution to Penrith’s Gross Regional Product (GRP) in 2022 at $6.7 billion. This accounts for 22.4% of total GRP and demonstrates the huge potential for further growth in Penrith’s manufactuing sector. The Essentials of Metal Additive Manufacturing short course provides a huge opportunity for Penrith’s local company owners, CEO’s/MD’s, managers, designers, technicians, tradespeople and apprentices working in the manufacturing sector to take advantage of this free training model and identify new avenues for growth and innovation.

Delivered in partnership by Western Sydney University and global leader GE Additive, this micro-credential provides business owners, engineers and machine operators with the skills and practical experience to better understand how they can use industrial 3D printing their businesses. The course offers flexible delivery options including online and on-demand and concludes with a hands-on, face-to-face session held at Western Sydney University’s Advanced Manufacturing Precinct in Kingswood, allowing participants to put their new skills into practice.
