Penrith City Council has taken a significant step forward in the delivery of a new central park for St Marys, with the appointment of a construction contractor.
Regal Innovations has been selected following a tender process. The leading civil and commercial landscaping company has a proven track record of open space projects across Greater Sydney including Parramatta Square, North Rosebery Park and Penrith’s City Park.
The central park will become the civic green heart of the St Marys Town Centre, creating an oasis for people to relax, socialise, play and enjoy events. It’s a key part of the visionary master plan endorsed by Council in March last year.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said park construction will begin midway through this year.
“It’s exciting to see this project progress, supporting the community and Council’s aspirations for a more vibrant St Marys Town Centre,” Cr Carney said.
“The park is an important part of our plans to revitalise the Town Centre to attract more people and investment into the area, particularly once it’s directly connected to the Western Sydney International Airport by the Sydney Metro rail line.”
Once finalised by the State Government, the planning mechanisms for the broader Town Centre will enable further investment that will transform St Marys into a strategic city centre over the next 20 years.
The St Marys Central Park project is funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program and Council.
NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Londonderry Prue Car said she is pleased to see this step towards transforming St Marys into a vibrant and connected town centre.
“Our community deserves the infrastructure and facilities to support the growth St Marys is set to see through the Sydney Metro connection.
“This project will bring a new hub of activity into St Marys, supporting local businesses and providing more space for local residents to enjoy.”
The central park will feature an entertainment area, fenced children’s playspace with water play, lawn area, amenities building, water features, trees, gardens, pathways, shaded picnic tables and seating.
Construction is due to begin this year.
